Meet Naval Architect Rob Allums, Guice Offshore’s new Director of Technical Services, whose addition strengthens Guice Offshore’s specialty maritime engineering and consulting services across various industries, including aerospace and offshore wind.
Now, along with partner Asa Moss, Guice Offshore has TWO naval architects on staff for our clients.
Rob will be heavily involved in all aspects of Guice Offshore vessel activities with an emphasis on technical support to the fleet and clients. This dedication encompasses dry dock planning and management, project specific outfitting and modifications, and client consulting services. Every task will be performed with optimization and efficiency in mind, in conformity with U.S. Coast Guard regulations and ABS standards.
Like a giant, real-life, high-stakes game of Tetris, managing how heavy industrial-sized items affect the heave, sway, surge, roll, pitch and yaw of a large vessel needs precision expert planning to ensure safety, especially for the crew itself, whose weight, motion and cargo must be assiduously accounted for by Rob and Asa’s calculations and measured against dynamic offshore marine conditions.
Rob, who also has worked with naval architecture firms to design whole vessels from top to bottom, is highly experienced in ship construction. At Guice Offshore, he and Asa have the benefit of becoming intimately familiar with each vessel in our fleet. Their knowledge of what each boat does ultimately translates into proven solutions based on practical experience and understanding, as opposed to a theoretical solution by an outside naval architect who has never operated that particular vessel before.
Rob earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and his Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of New Orleans.
With our long history of handling very unique and complex maritime specialty jobs, together with Rob and Asa’s high-level naval architecture and maritime engineering experience, Guice Offshore looks forward to serving our offshore consulting clients, no matter what the job.
