Meet the Offshore Energy Startups Presenting Innovations at Oceantic Network’s International Partnering Forum #IPF25 April 28 to May 1

Meet the Offshore Energy Startups Presenting Innovations at Oceantic Network's International Partnering Forum #IPF25 April 28 to May 1

Oceantic Network, in partnership with SeaAhead, announced the participants in Startup Alley at the 2025 International Partnering Forum (IPF), which provides a platform for the most innovative startups in offshore renewable energy to pitch their business innovations. This year, seven start-up companies whose technologies and products serve ocean renewables development will present at Oceantic’s annual conference, taking place April 28 – May 1 in Virginia Beach, Va.

Guice Offshore Vice President of Sales and Marketing David Scheyd (pictured above) will be at #IPF2025 and available to discuss mini supply, platform supply and offshore support vessel charter needs.

As demand for energy surges, new solutions are needed to lower costs, increase efficiency, and open new paths to energy generation, especially along our nation’s coasts where other energy sources aren’t available. Startup Alley gives businesses the opportunity to showcase their innovations and directly connect with industry leaders and stakeholders at the largest offshore renewable energy conference in the Americas.

“Meeting our nation’s growing energy demands require we take advantage of all available energy sources, and offshore wind energy has already proven its ability to drive significant job creation, economic development, and investment to communities across the U.S.,” said Liz Burdock, CEO of Oceantic Network. “As we continue to develop offshore renewable energy along our nation’s coasts, it’s critical that we continue to share expertise and look for new innovations to solve problems and drive down consumer costs. I’m excited to spotlight these companies’ innovative solutions as the industry gathers in Virginia Beach this April.”

For the fourth year, Oceantic and SeaAhead have partnered to select the promising startups within the global offshore renewable energy industry. This year’s cohorts range from data collection and unmanned operations to anchoring devices and entirely new generator designs that will create power from ocean currents. The 2025 Startup Alley Participants are:

  • Coastal Measures (Durham, N.H.)
Provides solutions to reduce cost and improve efficiency of offshore data collection and analysis.  CUMULUS, a data tool, replaces the old paradigm where every sensor sends data in proprietary formats to siloed data repositories. Instead, an innovative plugin architecture lets sensor vendors integrate directly into CUMULUS to reduce their data management costs by more than 30% while staying focused on creating state-of-the-art hardware. CUMULUS delivers a unified data stream from any sensor, private or public, that is immediately ready for AI or other analytics to support decision-making. Whether it is to enable our renewable energy industry or mitigating risk for coastal communities, Coastal Measures is making ocean data work better right now.

  • Crewless Marine (Warren, R.I.)
Equips unmanned platforms with underwater acoustic monitoring capabilities.  Crewless Marine equips unmanned platforms with underwatering monitoring capabilities for maritime security. We provide affordable and scalable hydrophone arrays and software to detect and localize sources of underwater noise across multiple platforms.

  • Deep Anchor Solutions (Houston, Texas)
Pioneered a deeply embedded ring anchor (DERA) for floating offshore wind.  Deep Anchor Solutions accelerates floating renewables with the Deeply Embedded Ring Anchor (DERA) – a compact, cost-effective, and sustainable anchoring system. DERA reduces costs by up to 75%, eliminates the need for port upgrades, protects marine life, and supports local economies, making floating renewables more scalable and viable.

  • Equinox Ocean Turbines (Leeuwarden, Netherlands)
Creating a new turbine design that harnesses the power of ocean currents.  Ocean currents offer a consistent, round-the-clock energy source, providing robust and predictable baseload power. Our proprietary two-stage turbine technology concentrates energy before harvesting, maximizing efficiency and scalability. By leveraging proven materials and designs from other renewable sectors, we ensure a cost-effective and sustainable solution. The first commercial turbine will be launched in 2027 with a power production of up to 3 megawatts.

  • MMSeas (Virginia Beach, Va.)
Streamlines the process of obtaining Coast Guard licenses.  MM-SEAS USCG Licensing Software simplifies the process of obtaining and maintaining U.S. Coast Guard licenses for both mariners and maritime employers. Mariners benefit from clear guidance, document tracking, and sea service calculations, while employers can ensure crew MMC compliance. Offering “Stress-Free MMC submissions,” the MM-SEAS team provides a unique advantage by double-checking applications for common errors, paying correct federal fees, submitting the MMC application to the Coast Guard, and proactively tracking it. Should any issues arise, the MM-SEAS team actively works with the USCG to resolve them, ensuring a smooth and efficient process for its customers.

  • Orpheus Ocean (New Bedford, Mass.)
Uses a fleet of autonomous vehicles to streamline seafloor data collection.  Orpheus Ocean is enabling ultra-scalable access to seafloor environments. Powered by a constellation of unique autonomous vehicles, we streamline the acquisition of critical environmental, biological, and geotechnical data with high-resolution benthic surveys, seabed sample collection, and long-duration monitoring.

Each company will showcase their work on the Exhibit Floor and present their pitch to IPF participants at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, and Wednesday, April 30.

“Startups play a vital role in bringing innovative technology to the ocean renewable energy sector,” said Nadir Ait-Laoussine, vice president, platform & programs at SeaAhead. “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Oceantic Network and bring forward this year’s group of startups which address some of the industry’s most pressing challenges in areas including ocean sensing and monitoring, ocean data and AI applications, infrastructure, and workforce development. Startup Alley offers an exceptional platform for these businesses to meet industry stakeholders, build collaborations and drive forward their commercialization. SeaAhead works closely with startups and industry leaders to facilitate the commercialization of these innovative companies, and look forward to celebrating them at IPF.”
