While filled with the spirit of adventure and freedom of the ocean, the world of maritime and offshore engineering also requires managing the most finite of operational details and moving parts, from crewing logistics and safety training, to onboard maintenance, food service and deck reconfigurations.
Held annually during the last week in April, Administrative Professionals Week is dedicated to celebrating the contributions of administrative professionals to business and industries. It’s the perfect time for all of us at Guice Offshore to recognize our essential team members like Administrative Assistant/Receptionist Lauren Schexnider, whose ability to marshal myriad details—each one as critical as the next—on a daily basis helps to keep our operations running smoothly and our clients jobs done as promised and on time.
What’s her secret to staying organized?
“I keep running lists and use “Siri” to set reminders for myself so I can focus on the task at hand,” she explained. She also credits her ability to listen and communicate with others, along with her work ethic and punctuality.
Insightful beyond her 24 years, Lauren came to Guice Offshore in 2023 as a graduate of University of Louisiana at Lafayette still unsure of her career path, despite the extensive experience and success she had already accrued in handling administration for other companies.
“I originally thought I wanted to be a cosmetologist, but it was my grandparents who showed me there was more to learn and do out there, and they were right,” she laughs. “I love the fast pace at Guice Offshore, because there’s always something new happening here with all the fascinating different types of offshore jobs we do—many of them you’d never imagine that we could do, but we do!”
A self-described science geek, Thoroughbred racing enthusiast and accomplished equestrienne, Lauren grew up on her grandparents’ horse farm, operating all kinds of heavy machinery and driving her father’s boat in the marshes.
“I didn’t know it at the time, but it was the perfect foundation for working at Guice Offshore,” she remembers.
Being at Guice Offshore also inspired Lauren to return to school, where she is currently earning her Master of Business Administration, a degree she is confident will help her contribute to “all the moving parts of the company” including human resources, safety, billing, crewing and more.
During her undergraduate studies, Lauren was an active member of the Alpha Mu chapter of Tri Sigma sorority, a Sigma Alpha Lambda Honors Club member and a member of University of Louisiana’s National Society of Leadership and Success. She graduated with multiple service awards, which helped her realize how much she enjoyed helping others.
And soon, she’ll be adding another milestone when she marries fiancé Trevor next year!
